JongerenTop organizes a Youth Summit on peace and freedom together with Dutch VET school Noorderpoort and the German IGS Schaumburg (Stadthagen, near Hannover).
Goal
Goal of this project: participants create agency how to actively contribute to a Europe in peace and engage and create small and large actions, so that the current generation and all future generations never have to experience war again.
National Youth Summits
In each country, participating young people receive preparatory activities. For example, about the history of the EU, learning democratic skills, psychological influence and how wars shape cultures. They then have diologue sessions. For example during a Dutch Youth Summit (21 May 2025, with 100 young people between the ages of 16-20 from the North of the Netherlands) according to the JongerenTop methododology.
Echoes of Freedom on Schiermonnikoog
After these prepatory activities, a delegation of 41 German and Dutch young people came together for a week on Schiermonnikoog (in the week in which Schiermonnikoog celebrates its 80th anniversary of liberation). They met each other, heard personal stories from people from war zones, war journalists and many others and had dialogue with each other, shared experiences (for example from the national Youth Summits) and together made a call to action with joint actions to live in peace and freedom for another 80 years. This call to action was handed over to administrators of governments and schools. Because not only young people, but also administrators, schools and governments can contribute to peace and freedom.
